The Monterrei D.O., located south of Ourense (Spain) in the Támega River basin, is defined by a Mediterranean microclimate with continental influences. This brings dry summers and sharp day-to-night temperature drops. Vineyards sit between 400 and 700 meters high, spread across hillsides and valleys with slate, granite, and clay soils. This geological variety gives the wines distinct mineral notes and complexity. Indigenous grapes take center stage here, standing out for crisp, aromatic Godello whites, as well as expressive, well-structured Mencía red wines.
